This handsome, heavy medal measures 1" as shown. An endless (over the head) stainless steel curb chain is standard with the 1" medal. A smaller size, 3/4" medal (preferred by most ladies) is also available with a finer, 18" stainless curb chain. The same medal is available in both sizes in a heavy 14 karat gold filled with or without a goldtone chain, or in solid 14 karat gold, without chain. St. Matthias, was chosen to be an Apostle to replace Judas. The very beginning of the Book of Acts of the Apostles describes how the 11 chose two worthy men who had been disciples of Jesus from the beginning. Then they drew lots to determine which one would replace the betrayer of Christ. Matthias's succession to the office of Judas tells us several things: first, that we should expect that there will always be traitors within the ranks of the clergy and second, that their evil cannot ever nullify their office. The One, Holy, Catholic and Apostolic Church founded by Jesus Christ will continue on in time until the end of the world. It will enjoy good leaders and have to suffer the bad ones. Should the bad ones obscure the Truth, it is the duty of the laity to seek the Truth handed down to the Apostles and their successors by Jesus Christ. The teachings are there. They must simply be uncovered and relearned. There is no excuse because, paraphrasing Our Lord, "when the blind follow the blind, both fall into the pit." Leaving the Catholic Church for another religion is following a blind leader.
